Do they even READ THEIR OWN BIBLE?

Quote: "Some Christian fanatics are concerned, quite reasonably, about the economy, and have chosen, quite absurdly, to try and correct the problem with prayer. So far, so typical, but then … well, they picked a peculiarly oblivious way to do it. They prayed before a statue of a golden bull on Wall Street."

So, does that story of the Ten Commandments ring a bell, where Moses descended from Mount Sinai and threw the tablets at the golden calf in the midst of the Hebrew's revelry?

7 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.'

As if that weren't enough, there's an organized event taking place, named 'The Call' at a San Diego stadium where 70,000 people (Dr. James Dobson included) will pray and fast (willingly stop eating) in effect so that gays will have their short-lived rights revoked.

So what does the bible say about fasting (not eating so that god takes them seriously)? Let's take a looksie, shall we?:

    Matthew 6: 5-8, 16-18

5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

16 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,

18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Or......you could just invite 70,000 of your BFF's over and do it that way.  Alright, guys - I can only read so much of your bible for you.  Help me out here.
