What the fuck?

Now Spongebob is an "evil homosexual" out to get your children? i went to church all throughout my life and i have come across some very great people, but for the most part, just about every staff member in the high school & middle school departments was pretty much a hypocrite. i think there is great irony in how the people that are supposed to be the most open, receiving, understanding & compassionate people seem to be the ones with the most hate filled in their hearts. we had a pianist in our youth group who spoke with a lisp and it was no secret that many people though he was gay. i never thought that--yes, he could pass for it solely going by his demeanor at times, but that was not going to change my opinion of him. he was a great guy who was extremely respectful to the teens he worked around. this friend i know from my old church told me that he didn't have a partner to room with on tour one year so he ended up rooming with our pianist, mr. tyson. he didn't care at all.. mr. tyson was a great person and fun to talk to and be around. he was a real friend to all the youth there. turns out, my friend's mother heard about this and pulled him out. she was not going to have her son rooming with mr. tyson. she was a "very godly" woman, indeed. how embarrassing for her child, and for mr. tyson as well.

Just over these past few days I've read incredibly ridiculous stories that do not help my perception of the extreme right.

1. a bill that would prevent cheerleaders from doing "sexy" dances at school. i believe this one is going to get struck down. besides, it's not like we go to the games for the fresh food or to see big men sweat...right?
2. receiving detention in school for offering "lingering hugs" to friends, or significant other.
3. the state trying to make it illegal for you to live with your boyfriend/girlfriend if you are not married.

let's recap: they want spongbob's head. cheerleaders are supposed to just stand completely still..ok, let's stretch it and assume they can shake their pom-poms a couple of times and let out a "woo". you cannot move in with your boyfriend/girlfriend because it goes against your state's religion. not yours--but the states. oh, and you can't let your hugs "linger" at school. afterall, you can get pregnant if you hug for more than 5 seconds. give me a break. people fear what they don't understand. it's a shame that the people who are called to lead in love and are expected to have the most compassion, actually seem to harbor the most hatred and appear the most closed-minded. it's a cartoon, for crying out loud. it's funny, that's why people watch it. did spongebob come out of the closet? no. are your children going to have sex with the same gender because spongebob seems to be a big hit with homosexual adult males? grow up and worry about winning souls over to christ without pushing people farther away from Him.

When The State Acts Like Grandma

Since when should the state you live in start playing the role of your grandma and telling you to marry your boyfriend if you are going to live with him. Well, let's go one step further and explain to you that you are breaking the law if you choose to do so. Ridiculous? I think so. Immoral? Probably. North Carolina has a law that bans couples from cohabiting if they are not married. Does the state have a right to tell you who you can & cannot live with? Furthermore, should the government have the right to tell you that you cannot marry somebody you love who just so happens to be the same gender? That's a different subject but it is pretty much the same on the surface. Should you be able to live with whomever you want; boy or girl? Yes. Should you be able to love whomever you want? Yes. It seems to me that this is a free country so long as you read and abide by the fine print.

Religion is definitely important and a vital part of the lives of many Americans---but not ALL Americans. When the government starts adopting ideologies & mixes them into every aspect of the everyday lives of people and those laws begin affecting the personal lives of people, it slowly but surely, compromises our civil liberties. We brag about having freedom and democracy, but yet our liberties are slowly being eroded and taken away more and more by the extreme right and nobody seems to notice. There is nothing wrong with being a Republican, and there is nothing wrong with being a Democrat. It's the ones who are extreme on both sides which seem to be the biggest threat to what ultimately makes this country great. It's a sad day when you are told it is illegal to live with your mate who you are not married to. Free country? Depends on what your religion is. That shouldn't be the case.
