Ashley, a volunteer for the McCain campaign originally told authorities that a man, who initially only sought to mug her, "punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the ground, and he continued to punch and kick her while threatening to teach her a lesson" after he realized she was a McCain supporter.
But not only that - the attacker allegedly cut a 'B' in her face. (We can only guess what the 'B' stands for.) But the police began questioning her story after the footage near the ATM didn't prove she was there. Also, they noticed how superficial the mark was on her face. Notice also how uniform the letter is etched on her face with no considerable deviations in the depth of the laceration? Considering it was performed in the heat of an orgiastic fit of rage, you have to give the 'attacker' credit for his (or her) steady hand. I mean it's possible that the attacker has excellent penmanship and takes great care in his carving of faces, but not exactly sure.
In the end, she ended up confessing she lied about the whole thing. Remember kids, when you want to carve letters in your face, you want to carve it so it's reversed in the mirror.
...and for good measure:

Yeah, as soon as I saw that backwards B, I knew the dummy had done it to herself. Wonder how she gave herself the black eye?
