You might remember when the Muslims were up in arms over the 'teddy bear' incident where a teacher allowed her students to name a teddy bear 'Muhammad'? Oops. It is seen as an insult to Islam to attempt to make an image of the Prophet Muhammad.
Many of you may also remember the backlash over a comic strip published by a European newspaper publication of a cartoon lampooning Muhammad. The repercussions could be felt far and wide, including in the Gaza Strip where many Europeans felt their lives would be in danger, along with many of the staff members at the European Union who closed their offices after warnings that their staff members would be kidnapped.
Mr Boulos said Ms Gibbons was following a British national curriculum course designed to teach young pupils about animals and this year's topic was the bear.
Ms Gibbons, who joined the school in August, asked a seven-year-old girl to bring in her teddy bear and asked the class to pick names for it, he said.
"They came up with eight names including Abdullah, Hassan and Muhammad," Mr Boulos said, adding that she then had the children vote on a name.
Twenty out of the 23 children chose Muhammad as their favourite name.
Mr Boulos said each child was then allowed to take the bear home at weekends and told to write a diary about what they did with it.
He said the children's entries were collected in a book with a picture of the bear on the cover and a message which read, "My name is Muhammad." [bbc]
"About a dozen gunmen briefly surrounded the empty building, firing their weapons. Some European countries warned citizens against travel in the Middle East. In the city of Multan in central Pakistan, several hundred students from Islamic schools burned French and Danish flags in protest. Boycotts of Danish grocery products expanded across the Middle East." [wp]
Of course there are many Christian's in America that laugh at the absurdity of these Muslims with how disproportionate their reactions seem to be to these trifles, but it now appears that this sort of frivolity has hit closer to home after a man "smuggled" a Eucharist out from a church that was blessed by the priest. For this he's been receiving a lot of death threats from the Catholic community who see his actions as an abomination. Additionally, a statement from Susan Fani, a spokesperson for the local diocese, didn't do much to quell the anger.Susan Fani goes on to say, "We don't know 100% what Mr. Cook's motivation was. However, if anything were to qualify as a hate crime, to us this seems like this might be it."
We just expect the University to take this seriously,” she added “To send a message to not just Mr. Cook but the whole community that this kind of really complete sacrilege will not be tolerated.”
For those that pointed a finger at the Muslim's for being petty about a teddy bear and causing a big fuss over a comic strip because it was difficult to sympathize with people over a religion that you denounce, it's your turn to look completely ridiculous when you realize you aren't above this either. It is a cracker. Now some guy is fearing for his life.
Someone, please wake me up when this is over.
