Labels Are For Cans

The Hanes Corporation has kicked of a pretty ill-thought ad campaign in Asia for its tag-free underwear.

In this ad, Hanes conveys the the concept of the Original Tagless Comfort underwear through the idea that the, “world gives you enough tags.” Yes. These are real. I've looked everywhere to see if this is a hoax and I haven't come up with one reliable source saying so.

The "Nigger" one shows a Pabst NA beer along with HIV positive, an image of a janitor mopping, hand-cuffs, and a gun. The "Faggot" poster shows a penis, Mardi Gras masks, makeup, and an illustration of a man sucking on a lollipop among other things. So they're essentially using the stereotypes to advertise for something that has no intrinsic connection to it. No fucking clue.

Granted the art direction (Timsy Gupta) and illustration is pretty good (Pranav and Timsy), but I'm sure heads would roll if this campaign made its way into Europe or North America. I'm surprised they aren't getting flack from it regardless. Also, they are apparently changing their slogan to "Wait 'til we get our Hanes on Jew!" Not seriously but they might as well.

Oh...and kiddies, make sure you're get more than $15. Meth fucks up your negotiating skills.

What's up with the shock value overkill required to get messages across nowadays anyway? Are you people so jaded that what is seen above is the only way to get across to you?!

haha. That shit made me LOL. Okay, okay. I just answered my own question. Yeah. Yeah it is.
